White God

Fehér Isten; Kornél Mundruczó, 2014, versions: OR,CS, languages: hun

+ predfilm: Nina

Director: Kornél Mundruczó • Scenario: Kata Wéber, Kornél Mundruczó, Viktória Petrányi • Camera: Marcell Rév • Haircut: Dávid Jancsó • Music: Asher Goldschmidt • Cast: Zsófia Psotta, Sándor Zsótér, Lili Monori, Szabolcs Thuróczy, László Gálffi, Ervin Nagy, Kornél Mundruczó, Károly Ascher, Lili Horváth

This fascinating film is built on a strong, universal story, as well as exceptional directorial work with both human and especially animal actors. The main hero of the film is Hagen, a modern version of Lassie. She belongs to the little Lili, who finds herself in the care of her father. When new government measures are implemented, he simply throws the dog out into the street. Hagen is looking for her way back. The film grips the audience not only in the way that it handles the “dog actors,” but also in its metaphorical overlap pointing to the complicated contemporary society. When a series of events leads to a war between humans and a gang of dogs, Lili may be the only one who can stop the catastrophe.
