19:00 - Screening of a new documentary film Anote's Ark about the devastating consequences of climate change for the Pacific island country Kiribati and its inhabitants. Kiribati is one of the first countries that must confront the main existential dilemma of our time: imminent annihilation from sea-level rise. While its President Anote Tong races to find a way to protect his nation’s people and maintain their dignity, many Kiribati are already seeking safe harbour overseas.

20:30 - Discussion with experts about impacts of climate change on displacement and international migration as well as about tools needed to address situation of people affected by this global phenomenon. Among discussants are Kanta Kumari Rigaud from the U.S. based World Bank Group, Jeffrey Labovitz from International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office for East and Horn of Africa in Kenya, and Alexander Ač from the Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The discussion will be held in English with no interpreting.

Event is organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Slovakia as the coordinator of the EMN National Contact Point for the Slovak Republic within the EMN Educational Seminar on Migration entitled ʻCauses and Consequences of Forced Migrationʼ.
