Halt auf freier Strecke; Andreas Dresen, 2011, versions: OR,CS, languages: deu

Director: Andreas Dresen • Scenario: Andreas Dresen • Cast: Inka Friedrich, Milan Peschel, Otto Mellies, Steffi Kühnert, Ursula Werner • Camera: Michael Hammon

Franck is diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour. With a limited time left, he and his family strive to do their uttermost to spend his final months of life in as dignified a manner as possible. In his film, Andreas Dresen affords a compelling, sensitive and, notwithstanding the tragic circumstances, provocatively humorous portrayal of a family trying to face up to the hero’s impending death. Applying the method of partial improvisation, the director has achieved an overwhelming authenticity, as well as catharsis.
