Global Migration Film Festival

IOM Invites You to the Global Migration Film Festival, 15 December 2016 in Kino Lumière

Three unique documentary films about the fate of migrants in Africa, en route to Europe, and their life in Europe will be presented at the first Global Migration Film Festival that will be held in Kino Lumière in Bratislava on Thursday, 15 December 2016 from 17:00. Entrance to the film festival is free. Films will be screened in original version with English subtitles.

The festival which includes films and discussions on migration issues is organized by International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the occasion of the International Migrants Day and IOM’s 65th anniversary in December 2016 – in addition to Slovakia in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Information on film screenings and tickets

The festival will take place in Kino Lumière, screening room 2 (cinema websitemap). Entrance to the film festival is free, seating is of your own choice on a first-come, first-served basis.

When entering the screening room you need to have a free ticket to screening of the selected film. Free tickets can be picked up at the cash desk of Kino Lumiére on the festival day, 15 December 2016 from 4:30 pm. If you would like to see more than one film, ask for free tickets to all the films you would like to see at the cash desk.

This documentary portrays different stories of West African migrants, men and women, travelling along migration routes and undergoing perilous journey from Africa to Italy. Senegal's rural villages, Niger's bus stations and "ghettos" full of traffickers, Italian squares and houses are the backdrops of these courageous trips, which often end in tragedy. No matter the cost, the goal to reach Europe will be achieved, "Wallah." But there are those who, tired from the journey, turn back home.
