One World Festival

12. - 17.10.2017

A nemali by sme.

The Black Sheep; Antonio Martino, 2016, OV (arab., ang.) + AT + eST (cz) | Jeden svet; Antonio Martino, versions: OR

Black Sheep is a 70-minute feature length documentary following a group of Hijras and the crew as they create new bonds of friendship while they proactively, through empowering events, break the barriers of popular myth and prejudice. The cinematic journey will move beyond the gritty slums of Mumbai to celebrate the real-life joys and multi-faceted personalities of this unique community of trans genders in India. From empathetic glimpses into their everyday lives, the narrative will encapsulate a series of adventures ranging from photo-shoots to fashion and talent shows, to celebrate the glorious femininity of the Hijra protagonists. Empowering adventures will include a DIY makeover for their currently grim workplace to bridging the emotional space between society, the families and the Hijras. The film will shine a light on these inspiring Hijras who have demonstrated the courage to go up against society’s strictures to fulfill their true destiny. “Black Sheep” will underscore the importance of freedom and living true to one’s identity and confront the negative portrayal of this hitherto marginalized section of Indian society. The objective is not to sermonize or castigate. Black sheep will be a beautiful, poignant documentary that honors and celebrates the freedom to live true to one’s destiny. Show more

Falciani´s Tax Bomb Falciani´s Tax Bomb; Ben Lewis, 2015, OV (rôzne) + AT + eST | Jeden svet

Falciani´s Tax Bomb; Ben Lewis, 2015, OV (rôzne) + AT + eST | Jeden svet; Ben Lewis, versions: OR

Over the last ten years, a series of leaks of financial data have made politicians and public opinion in many Western democracies increasingly concerned about the tax optimisation practices of the wealthiest members of their society. In the shadow of the financial crisis, public opinion has been calling for reform of banking privacy and international tax agreements. The subject has created diplomatic crises between nations and tensions in financial markets. One of the figures at the centre of the debate is the Franco-Italian banking IT technician Hervé Falciani. In 2008, Hervé Falciani left his job at the Swiss branch of HSBC, taking with him - without authorisation - a hard-drive containing a database of 130,000 named bank accounts, held by citizens from 180 countries. This database found its way into the hands of many world governments. The purpose of this film is to examine the tax debate in a critical and engaging but also a balanced way. http://www.imdb.com Show more

Gaming the Real World

Gaming the Real World; Anders Eklund, 2016, OV (ang., švéd.) + ST (cz) | Jeden svet; Anders Eklund, 2016, versions: OR

Can games change the world? With cities everywhere struggling to cope with the population growth that increased urbanisation brings, can video games be harnessed to help the residents, especially young people, take part in planning, and fixing their own cities. Today public spaces and entire cities are being designed, planned and played through the medium of games. The result of this "civic gamification" is that city architecture and urban planning is being democratized. Cities have become the ground zero for digital innovation and the debate about how our cities evolve has suddenly gone viral. We follow three game companies navigating the space where urban planning and gaming meet. Lydia Winters at the game developer Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, Paradox Interactive and the game Cities: Skylines and José Sanches and his indie game Block'hood. How will our cities look in 20-100 years time? http://www.imdb.com Show more

Boiling Point

Kiehumispiste; Elina Hirvonen, 2017, OV (rôzne) + AT + eST (cz) | Jeden svet; Elina Hirvonen, 2017, versions: OR , CS

Insults and slogans spread through the air. "No savages and monsters in Finland!" "Racists out!" "God gave each nation its own place on earth!" Demonstrations, skirmishes, happenings. Friends who have known each other for years now fight in the sauna about humanitarian aid to refugees. Young Muslim women are afraid to walk in the city alone. Nationalists do not believe the media and establish their own news site. The film shows Finnish society as a fragmented mosaic where the rise of nationalism and neo-Nazism, distrust of the media, the government, the EU and Chancellor Merkel are accompanied by the same rhetoric that can be found in the Czech and Slovak Republic. Refugees: Who Needs Them?

Refugees: Who Needs Them?; Miles Roston, 2012, OV (ang., hol.) + eST | Jeden svet; Miles Roston, 2012, versions: OR

As the debate on immigration is on the rise across Europe and the hard line against immigrants and refugees tightens, the Dutch government invites some refugees in and offers them a new home. The film shot over the course of 2011 follows dramatic stories of five of these refugees forced to flee because of their political or religious opinions and ethnic background that put them at risk in their countries. The refugees come into the world now in the grip of growing anti-immigration rhetoric, and each of them has to face the hostile climate and obstacles to integrate in their new home. Still, they do their very best to adapt to Dutch culture and go to everything as Dutch as they can: they struggle to learn language, celebrate the Queen's Day, see art exhibitions of Dutch painters or visit the Anne Frank House. But everything they all want to know now is whether they are wanted, useful or even needed. Are these refugees a threat to us or do we need them? The film screening is part of the Global Migration Film Festival 2017 in Slovakia and the One World Festival. Show more

Nuclear Neighbour

Nuclear Neighbour; Fredrik Oskarsson, 2016, OV (ang., fín.) + AT + eST (cz) | Jeden svet; Fredrik Oskarsson, 2016, versions: OR

When the Finnish power company Fennovoima announced their plans to build a nuclear power plant in Pyhäjoki in north of Finland in October 2011, news cameras captured ecstatically cheering business men and a widely smiling municipal manager. Jobs! New businesses! The fleeing investors and Russian Rosatom were still a long way off. Nuclear Neighbour isn’t just a film about the nuclear plant project, where the end justifies the means. It is also a story about a regular person’s mammoth task. This person is Hanna Halmeenpää, a teacher who volunteers her evenings and weekends to save the unique natural environment of her home together with her fellow activists in the Pro Hanhikivi association. When fighting a nuclear project, free time is a luxury you can’t afford. In promoting her cause, Hanna travels from one country to the next, poses difficult questions to the powers that be and, during a TV debate, silences a minister with her incisive argumentation. After reading to the children their bedtime story, Hanna returns to her laptop in the kitchen to continue the fight to save Hanhikivi. ’I have never before been an activist or political in any way,’ says Hanna. It takes a weighty cause to change everything. http://bautafilm.se Show more
