The Osage Indian tribe was one of the world's wealthiest communities in the 1920s. They were fortunate enough to have oil discovered on their land and to be able to make a profit on every barrel they produced. The Ossetians owned huge houses, beautiful cars and white servants. But they were also very unlucky, because they, more than any other population, were haunted by mysterious and "unfortunate" deaths. Even though they were fabulously wealthy, they were still "just" Indians, so no one investigated their suspicious ends, and the rights to the oil profits quietly shifted into foreign hands. It's just that that's how long you go around with a water jug until even the then newly formed FBI wakes up. The heroine of the story, Mollie Burkart (Lily Gladstone), is one of the lucky owners of the oil-saturated Indian land. With her innate high intelligence, she manages to avoid circumstances and situations that would take her life and make her a "statistic." But then she meets Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio), a war veteran whose uncle (Robert De Niro) is one of the most respected men in the entire region. A spark jumps between Ernest and Mollie. Is she sincere, or is it fueled by Ernest's desire for fabulous wealth? How long can Mollie survive?
