Jánošík 21; Jaroslav Siakeľ, 1921, versions: OR,SS,

Erik Truffaz (trumpet), David Kollar (guitars) & Tomáš Mutina (live sampling) live.

Director: Jaroslav Siakeľ

A unique connection between the 100th anniversary of Slovak film and world music! The first 50 tickets exclusively at a discounted price of 10€.

Jaroslav Siakeľ’s silent film Jánošík premiered a century ago, but only in 1975 was it given a soundtrack, a score by composer Jozef Malovec. In 2006 the group tEóRia OtraSu played a live musical accompaniment to the film, and in 2021, to celebrate the film’s centennial, a new accompaniment was composed by David Kollar.

Erik Truffaz, a world-famous French jazz trumpeter, who also infuses elements of hip hop, rock and roll and dance music, will perform in the company of a world-famous guitarist from the Slovak scene David Kollar and music producer and explorer Tomáš Mutina. They will perform live at Cinema Lumière, where they will musically accompany the screening of the silent film Jánošík 1921.

Don’t expect a predictable pastiche of Slovak folk music with shepherd’s flutes and bagpipes; Kollar’s composition is a modern take on the film, looking at it through the prism of other pictures, most made since Jánošík’s 1921 release. His music proceeds intuitively from the film’s images, not resisting them, but aiming to move along with them, using fragments borrowed from Slovak composers such as Ján Cikker and Ilja Zeljenka, as well as his own musical ideas and various sounds. His ambition is clear – to be a good dialogical partner to the images onscreen.
