The feature documentary movie with staged scenes called Video kings (Králi videa) maps in detail the scene of importing, copying and dabbing movies from the West in socialistic Czechoslovakia and briefly in Poland and Hungary as well. In times when it was impossible to get movies from the western production to the official distribution there were groups of people who imported, non-professionally dabbed, and distributed recordings of these movies to people on VHS tapes. The documentary also follows the path of „justice“ – policemen whose duty it was to catch these pirates and dabbers. In the documentary many well-known names from the video scene of those times appear who later became publicists, directors, singers, translators, video rental shop owners. Apart from interviews the documentary also offers many staged „retro“ scenes so that people who didn’t live in that period could imagine how everything worked. Last but not least with this documentary we would like to honour all of the Angels of culture thanks to whom we could grow up and fall in love with movies.
