A young journalist Gareth Jones is getting ready for a major topic - a fast modernization of the Soviet Union. He is on his way to Moscow to an interview with Stalin. There, he meets a british journalist Ada Brooks, who reveals to him that the truth about the Stalinist regime is brutally suppressed by the Soviet censors. After Jones hears about the serious famine in the USSR, he gets on his way alone across the Ukraine. He witnesses the tragedy of the ukrainian famine and writes about it upon his return to London. The publication is suppressed and the authenticity is ridiculed by the Western journalists who still are under the power of Kremlin. Despite the death threats Gareth keeps on his fight for the truth.
